Chaudhuri Proposes Income Tax Cut for Working- and Middle-Class Families
Tax cut, minimum wage increase, equal pay for women part of plan to build a fair economy
RALEIGH, N.C. – Democratic State Senate candidate Jay Chaudhuri today proposed an income tax cut for working- and middle-class families as part of his plan to build an economy that works for all North Carolinians.
“As State Senator, I will focus on creating jobs, growing the local economy, and reducing inequality between the rich and the poor,” said Chaudhuri. “My plan to make the economy more fair includes cutting taxes for working- and middle-class families, raising the minimum wage, and making sure women receive equal pay for equal work.”
The proposed income tax cut will be between one-half and one percent. Chaudhuri’s economic policy also focuses on restoring the State’s Earned Income Tax Credit and childcare subsidies.
In addition to reducing inequality, Chaudhuri’s economic plan includes four key pillars:
- Invest in education and training;
- Grow small businesses;
- Revitalize our film and green jobs industries; and
- Spur innovation.
Chaudhuri’s economic plan builds on his experience as General Counsel and Senior Policy Advisor to State Treasurer Janet Cowell, where he helped create the Innovation Council to to help foster North Carolina’s innovation economy. He also helped establish a $230 million Innovation Fund to support and invest in state businesses.
